Bridge Point, East Sussex

A first-time developer was introduced to the Bridge Point site by JDA. Extensive negotiations were undertaken with Rother District Council, which is now using the project as a blueprint for further developments in this conservation area. The scheme includes four new houses with jetties and boat moorings set out over the riverbank. Light industrial buildings are located behind the new properties, complicating access to the site.

Bridge Point is part of a wider regeneration project for this area of Rye, which will see light industries move out in time. JD Architects design draws on the local architecture of boathouses, artisans’ studios and beach houses, using local materials within a relatively tight budget. Internally, accommodation is laid out over the upper floors to respond to flood risk in the area.
