Chorlton Junction, St Agnes, Cornwall

The brief for this project was to build a new sustainable home for a young family in St Agnes Cornwall in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Area of Great Historic Value, an Area of Great Scientific Value and a World Heritage Site. The site contains an impressive mature garden which the owners as avid gardeners were keen to retain and have any design respond to.

Existing entrances to the site, walkways through the garden and areas for pausing, contemplation and relaxation created a mesh of framed and dynamic views of the plot where the building would sit and therefore had a huge influence on the form we designed.

The building was also designed to exploit key vistas of the sea, plus a panoramic view of the established gardens while crucially, also providing avoiding overlooking of the neighbours and providing privacy. The from was also dictated by the sun paths, prevailing winds and thermal massing to create a sustainable building from concept. Planning Permission has been obtained and construction is underway.
